Join me on this five-hour tour, where I’ll reveal the fascinating origins of that famous saying and uncover many more hidden stories about the Eternal City. This experience is designed to let you relax and enjoy a peaceful escape from the city’s hectic traffic, surrounded by the timeless beauty and greenery of Rome’s countryside.

We’ll travel along part of the ancient Appian Way, a remarkable road built in the 4th century BC that stretches for over 400 miles. Along the route, we’ll pass through one of the ancient gates of the city, part of the Aurelian Walls constructed in the 3rd century AD. I’ll share insights into the impressive Roman engineering techniques used to build their roads, particularly their use of lava stone.

During our journey, we’ll visit ancient churches rich in mystery, museums, tombs, circuses, ancient baths, and Roman villas still standing beside centuries-old fortresses.

After picking you up directly from your accommodation in a Mercedes limovan, we’ll begin our journey toward the Aurelian Walls and Porta San Sebastiano.

From there, we’ll take a pleasant walk along a section of the ancient walls, and from the towers of Porta San Sebastiano, you’ll enjoy a breathtaking panoramic view of both the Roman countryside and the city itself.

Our next stop will be the Church of Santa Maria in Palmis, better known as Domine Quo Vadis, the legendary site where Saint Peter is said to have had a vision of Christ.

We’ll then continue to one of the earliest Christian cemeteries, the Catacombs, where you’ll step back in time and explore a fascinating underground world.

Afterward, we’ll pause for lunch to relax and savor some authentic local cuisine.

In the afternoon, we’ll visit a 4th-century villa and the Circus of Emperor Maxentius, followed by the Mausoleum of his son Romulus and the Mausoleum of Cecilia Metella, two of the most impressive ancient monuments along the Appian Way.

Our final stops will include the ancient Castrum Caetani and the Church of San Nicola, before we head back to your accommodation — a little tired perhaps, but surely delighted after a day immersed in history and beauty.
